Cleaning after a bereavement: the home emptied and cleaned with respect
After the death of a parent or relative, a lot comes your way, and the home often has to be handed over at short notice. We take the cleaning off your hands and coordinate the clearance with a house clearance company. That way the home can go to the landlord or the buyer on time, without you having to clean everything yourself.
- In consultation with the family
- Together with the clearance company
- Ready for handover
What we take off your hands, and what stays with you
The belongings, the memories and the choice of what to keep belong to the family. We take our time over that, and we don't throw anything away unless it's been agreed. Whatever the family wants to keep, we set aside. Any papers, photos and valuables we come across, we put aside for you.
If the home needs to be completely empty, we work with a house clearance company. If you already have a clearance company, or the notary is handling the estate, we coordinate the planning with them. Once the home is empty, we clean it from top to bottom, ready for handover to the landlord or housing association, or for the sale. If you live far away, we agree how we get the key and send you photos of every room afterwards.
-
Sorting belongings
Together with the family, we decide what stays, what goes to family members and what can go. We put personal papers and photos to one side.
-
Coordinating the clearance
If everything has to go, we work with a house clearance company, or with the clearance company you've already asked.
-
Second-hand shop and charity
Anything still usable gets a second life through a second-hand shop (kringloop) or a charity. The rest goes to the municipal recycling centre (milieustraat).
-
Thorough final clean
Kitchen degreased, bathroom and toilet descaled, radiators, window frames and floors cleaned. Including the spots where cupboards stood for years.
-
Ready for handover to the landlord
We get the home ready for the inspection by the landlord or housing association. If there's a pre-inspection report, we work through those points.
-
Ready for sale
If the home is going on the market, it will look clean and fresh for the photos and the first viewing.
What you can count on
-
Calm and respectful
We work carefully and without rushing, with respect for the person who has died and for you as a family.
-
In touch with family or notary
We coordinate with whoever is handling the estate: the family, the executor or the notary. That way everyone knows what's happening and when.
-
Photos of every room
After the clean, we send photos of every room. Useful if you live far away or can't be at the inspection yourself.
-
Handover guarantee
Does the landlord reject the handover on cleaning points from the job? Report it within 48 hours of the inspection and we'll come back free of charge.
"When the tenants had moved out of the home we own, Skoonz took it on to get it ready for sale. And it really needed it! Such lovely, friendly people. They reply straight away, even at the weekend. The result was stunning."

Questions about cleaning after a bereavement
How soon can you start?
We work 7 days a week and can also come at short notice. If the home has to be empty and clean by a fixed date, enter it in the free cleaning check. We'll then plan the clearance and the clean so that everything is ready in time.
Do you also do specialist cleaning after a death?
No. If someone was only found after some time, specialist cleaning is often needed. That has to be done first by a specialist company. After that, we can clear and clean the home. Not sure what's needed? Feel free to call us on 06 17 73 11 11 and we'll help you think it through.
Can the notary or executor book the job?
Yes. The job can come from a family member, the executor or the notary. We then agree who arranges access and who goes over the result with us. A notary's office or other business can pay by invoice.
What happens to belongings we want to keep?
We set them aside, or you gather them in one room beforehand. Only once it's clear what stays does the rest go to the second-hand shop, a charity or the recycling centre. If we come across something we're unsure about, such as documents or jewellery, we ask first.
